Gasparee Caves, Gaspar Grande Island

Just off the west coast of Port of Spain, there’s an underwater wonderland 100 feet underground, filled with limestone caverns and caves created over millions and millions of years.

Gaspar Grande is one of the Bocas Islands that can be found in the Dragon’s Mouth between Trinidad and Venezuela. And of all the caves on Gaspar Grande Island, the Blue Grotto Cave is the largest and most magical. Filled with limestone stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones and ribbons, many of the formations have names like The Buddha, Virgin Mary and The Lovers.

Many locals believe that one of the caves is home to a pirate’s bounty which can only be discovered on certain days of the year. You can take a short boat ride from Chaguaramas or Port of Spain to explore the beautiful blue pool at the bottom of Blue Grotto and to try to locate the treasure.
